Stop tryna fit into this crazy ungodly world. Not having God be the center of your life will catch up to you, since he has his eyes on you for his good works. You partnered with the Creator can be a trendsetting pair! Marty Mar and Fern are prime examples of how we can maintain our cool-joy factor while saying yes to the things of God. I love them! They have a unique calling by their ability to make outcast and troubled youth and young adults feel seen and welcomed in the Kingdom of Christ, no matter how they look or what circumstances they stem from! They are literally my favourites. Natural mentors who love out loud, giving appeal to living out the faith in a bold way. This hip hop duo does not take themselves too seriously all while doing some pretty serious work transforming hearts, inspiring hope, courage and a sense of belonging within the body of Christ. I daydream about picking them up at YVR to do a show in BC like every other day with a sign that says 'Watch Out For The Pineapples' while trying to contain myself! (referenced from a fun song of theirs) Boys I am praying for God's favour to get you guys across to Canada. We need you out here!
Their musical partnership was formed in 2011 and released their first free album, entitled Misfits, on November 27, 2012. Since then its been nothing but up for this pair. To date, they have dropped about 3 more albums and many singles that have been the inspired penmanship of God if you ask me. For the purpose of showcasing them here before you, I have picked 4 songs that exhibit their versatility and enthusiasm within the craft of music-making for the Ministry of Christ. Their latest songs 'Enough' featuring Austin French & 'Number One' both from the 2019 Album Mood//Doom, 'Social SZN' from 2017 Into the Night Album, 'Courage' featuring Tree Giants from the Misfit Generation Album, and finally 'Que Lo Que' a stand-alone single released also in 2019. Man can you tell I had issues narrowing down my selection of Social Club Misfit songs! And yes I just realized that's 5 songs, but too bad...I said they were my favourite and I mean it. If you like to judge by the cover then take your pick.
These Miami Florida young men have inspired me to the book of Philippians.
Since I have chosen to give you 5 songs I will encourage you to look up their bio a bit more in detail on the web. They are both prodigal sons returned. Philippians 1:6 states "I am sure that God who began the good work within you will keep right on helping you grow in his grace until his task within you finally finish[es] on that day when Jesus Christ returns." Well God has certainly tasked these men with good work to do as they extend the grace of God to others and experience it for themselves. I appreciate their transparency about their lives from past to present.
I believe that along with them "[we] can do everything God asks [us] to with the help of Christ who gives [us] the strength and the power" to do all things in any circumstance.
The writer of the book of Philippians, Paul was a former murderer of God's people. Ha! Yet God stopped him in his tracks, took the enthusiasm of his hate and judgement toward believers and turned it to love and purpose to do great works in the Church. God became enough for Paul. He no longer felt accomplished by the seemingly prestigious platform of his academic standing and logical opionions subscribed for a specific social status. In fact, after his transformation by the Creator, he did not feel ashamed and instead preached boldly to people he used to try to convince that Christianity was stupid and worth death. He called himself a citizen of heaven and was enthusiastic about teaching and building up the faith by planting several churches to work together for the cause of Christ. I want to strive to be like Paul. He was humble and able to diffuse intense situations by his Godly outlook on issues. He too was a great mentor to young disciples because his past was not so perfect. Marty and Fern are trendsetters doing Godly things! It is "God who works in [us all] to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose." Stay encouraged and excited as the Lord wills his good works through you to bless this world with hope for today and for the future.
